Wool Market Duathlon #2 Race Report

I got an email from Sam and Chris about doing the Saturday Wool Market Duathlon. This race was not in my schedule at all. I was planning on doing the Saturday group ride. Anyway, after some coaxing I decided to commit.

Unhealthy perfectionist

I was reading an older Runner's World the other day and cam across quiz.

Many runners are driven, but if your quest for excellence knows no bounds, you risk injury and mental burnout.

Take this quiz to see if your high standards are appropriate… or harmful.

True or false?

Breaking away–The Echelon

Many of the strong riders were out of town last weekend, either racing or recovery. I sent a quick email the night before to see who would be at the Saturday group ride. There was not much of a response but there was enough to get me to load up the bike in the truck.

I knew that Ron from the coast would be there. We happen to ride the same bike and work in the same industry. I held his wheel quite a bit up the hills at Red Bluff last year and he invited me to participate in my first crit.

Power Taping-Go Stronger for Longer

The latest installment in the ‘Ask the Physical Therapist’ from PT Dan – Are you wanting to go faster?  We are endurance athletes, we are not doing isolation bicep curls.  Our muscles work in harmony with each other.  Can Rocktape help you to go faster?  Research says it can.

If you remember when I hurt my shoulder after my bike crash Dan helped me out by taping me up (video).  It did make a difference.  I am not saying that I experienced a performance increase but I believe it helped my shoulder and collar bone heal quicker because it limited movement.

WIR-May 14, 2011

This has been a challenging week.  All scheduled workouts were completed (working the plan) but life and work got in the way a couple of times.  I’ll follow up on this but I cannot emphasize the importance of a training plan (any plan).  The workouts just would not have happened if they were not planned and scheduled.  When pressed for resources (time, stress, energy) not having to think and just execute is the easiest thing to do!

Time trialing in the mornings

Tuesday morning brought out the B-team plus a couple.  It was time for our annual TT.  We have a fixed route that just happens to be right next to my house.  It is an 11.8 mile out and back on the trace.  The out portion is slightly uphill and, well, the back is slightly downhill.  There are no hills and only one rarely travelled intersection on the route.

Race sticker removal

I have a friendly cycling TT in the morning – 5:45AM to be exact.  So while I was in the process of pumping up and putting my race wheels on my race bike I noticed that my race helmet still had a race sticker on it.

I know that this sticker is primarily for the photographers.

Summer time has returned.

I was in Boston all last week. The temperatures were what I would describe as chilly. I wore a sweater most days and when I ran outside I wore long sleeves. Back in Mississippi the start of summer has arrived. This weekend the temperatures were in the high 80’s This week they will be in the low 90’s.

Vibram five fingers–first look

I went to Sacks Outdoors ( http://www.facebook.com/sacksoutdoors )last Saturday. If you remember they organized the Naked Tour down here in Hattiesburg. I got to run with Scott Jurek and Chris McDougall! Sacks raffled off a ton of items.  I won a certificate for a free pair of Vibram five finger shoes.
